Civil Society Forum
23 May
2008
Recognizing the critical role that Civil Society
Organisations have in the effective engagement of
the IHP+ at country level as well as their inputs at
global level, a one day meeting was held in Geneva
in order to discuss concrete next steps following
the Civil Society Engagement Note that was
circulated in March 2008.
Civil Society representatives
joined country representatives, multilateral and
bilateral agencies to discuss how to more effectively
integrate the expertise that CSOs offer to the IHP+ and
to the countries themselves.
The key objectives of the meeting were to:
-
Clarify IHP+ objectives, provide an update on progress to date including compact development
-
Clarify rationale, roles and responsibilities of Civil Society representation in IHP+ Structures.
-
Identify good models of Civil Society engagement and outline clear next steps for the formation of an IHP+ Civil Society Consultative Group and selection of Civil Society representation on the SuRG.
-
Understand what Civil Society engagement has been in IHP+ signatory countries and challenges to meaningful and adequate engagement at the country level in an effort to outline clear next steps for facilitating and deepening Civil Society engagement at the country level.
-
understand objectives, mandate and composition of IHP+ working groups and outline clear next steps for selection of Civil Society representatives in working groups.
- Clarify donor commitment to fill financing gaps identified by countries
