Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), under the auspices of the IHP+ Civil Society Consultative Group, gathered from 10-11 December 2012 in Nairobi.
The IHP+ CSCG is an advisory group composed of individuals from developed and developing countries. Each member of the CSCG brings unique knowledge and expertise from various health system and disease-specific areas to enhance the contribution of civil society engagement in IHP+’s work on improving development effectiveness in health.
More than 20 participants at the meeting represented Northern and Southern CSOs, including representatives of national health CSOs from IHP+ signatory countries.
Building on the success of its last meeting in Kampala, Uganda in 2011, the CSCG reviewed progress with civil society engagement in IHP+ processes at country and global levels. Topics included an update on the post-2015 development agenda, the campaign for a Framework Convention for Global Health, and how the CSCG can effectively engage and contribute to the process. The meeting also sensitized participants on new initiatives that aim to strengthen national health CSO platforms especially among Anglophone and Francophone African countries.
Two outcomes of the meeting were the CSCG Action Plan for 2013, and key messages from CSOs to the 4th IHP+ Country Health Teams Meeting. These messages were also presented and supported at the joint meeting of the CSCG and CSO delegates in country teams, held on 12 December 2012.
