IHP+ was the topic of conversation on 23 September 2014 at the UN General Assembly during a side event titled “Debate on the Future of the Global Health Architecture.” The IHP+ session was moderated by Anders Nordström, Swedish Ambassador for Global Health, and featured two speakers: Nicole Klingen, Practice Manager for Health, Nutrition and Population at the World Bank Group, and Ties Boerma, Director of Health Statistics & Information Systems at the World Health Organization. Nicole Klingen outlined what IHP+ is and has achieved, and emphasized IHP+'s importance in the post-2015 agenda. Referencing the IHP+ Seven Behaviours, Nicole Klingen stressed the need to accelerate progress and change behavior.
Ties Boerma then described the progress that has been made on identifying a list of 100 core indicators for results monitoring that can serve as the basis for rationalizing the reporting burden on countries, a major example of IHP+ related work. In this context, he highlighted the importance of ensuring aligned support for strengthening country-led platforms for information and accountability.
Global health agency leaders met on 24 September 2014 at the UN General Assembly, and endorsed this core set of indicators and proposed way forward.
The debate was arranged by the Center for Global Health & Diplomacy. The full debate can be streamed here.
